Foldable intraocular lenses (IOL’s) can be implanted through <3mm incisions in the eye with the aid of an intraoccular delivery device. To assist in the mobility, and to eliminate any damage to the IOL as it is introduced into the eye, the cartridge delivery device is coated with a lubricious coating. Gas Plasma activation is critical to increase the surface energy of the delivery cartridge prior to the chemical grafting step of lubricious materials such Polyvinylpyrrolidine. Insertion forces of IOL’s are lower for treated cartridges compared to standard cartridges with internal lubricants.
